Joan Junyer (American, b. Spain, 1904 - 1994), pochoir, costume design, for the Minoan women dancers, for the ballet "The Minotaur" signed and dated lower left "Junyer 47" and with a mark lower right. Image: 19" H x 14: W frame: 24.75" H x 19" W. Provenance: Property from an estate at 180 East End Avenue. Note: The Minotaur (1947) was commissioned by Ballet Society with a Scenario by Lincoln Kirstein, and Georges Balanchine as artistic director, and premiered on March 26, 1947, at the Central High School of Needle Trades, New York. The original cast included Elise Reiman, Fred Danieli, Paul d'Amboise, Edward Bigelow, Tanaquil Le Clercq, and Lew Christensen, with sets and costumes by Joan Junver.
