Description
MICHEL CLAUDE CLODION (FRANCE, 1738-1814) FIRE GILT BRONZE BACCHANAL GROUP FIGURAL CLOCK

France, 18th/19th century, bronze with onyx clock case/base, works marked "Raingo-Freres / Paris". The bronze signed "Clodion - 1362" backside on that naturalistic ground, the underside impressed with "COLIN" and the signature "Balboa". Resting on the architectural case with gilt metal bordering and highlights. Backside access to the works displays a dated "1894" service sticker for "Mermod & Jaccard - St. Louis, Missouri". Statue 22.5" height; full 31" height

Condition
Top surface, beneath the gilt bronze, seems unfinished, or more accurately, it is likely missing the entire fitted top onyx surface of the architectural case as the bronze simply rests on that unfinished surface. The white marble dial with few minor chips and missing the gilt numeral "VII" on the dial, as well as the minute hand, missing. There is an age crack just left of center off the bottom of the dial on the lower onyx trim in front, with a crack to the backside in the lower trim just below the back access door. Backside access door to the works is glass and it is cracked. To what is now the top surface of the case, there are a few very small edge chips. There is no pendulum or key, but there is a bell. There are several small areas with a bit of loss to the finish of the bronze but no areas show any signs of 'scratches' or 'scratching'. Full weight approximately 81 lbs. (bronze alone is 38 or so)
