IGNACIO PINAZO MARTÃNEZ (Valencia, 1883 - Godella, 1970).
"Bust of a man".
Stone.
Signed.
Sizes: 36 x 20 x 25 cm; 50 x 24 x 24 x 23 cm (with base).
He was the son of the artist Ignacio Pinazo Camarlench. At the age of 9 he would begin his artistic career under the guidance of his father, and later he would study at the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos, Valencia until he abandoned his studies to devote himself to sculpture. In 1900 he moved to Madrid, where he joined Mariano Benlliure's workshop. Four years later he returned to his native city where he obtained a pension from the Diputación de Valencia to continue his studies in Rome. One of his first works was El grabador Esteve ("The Engraver Esteve").
In 1915 he won the Second Medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts for his sculpture El Saque. Other outstanding works were: El grabador Esteve, El Saque, El Enigma, Ofrenda, Flor de Valencia, Cabeza de labrador valenciano, FantasÃÂa sobre la Dama de Elche (Fantasy on the Lady of Elche), etc.
He was interested in Baroque and Neoclassical statuary art, adopting characteristics of other artists such as Alonso Cano.
In 1942 he made the image of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno for the Brotherhood of Jesús (Nazareno) of the Holy Week of Cieza (Murcia).
In 1950 he made the half-length bust with cape of Pedro Muñoz Seca located in the town where the comedian was born, El Puerto de Santa MarÃÂa.
In 1969 he was appointed Academician of Fine Arts and was awarded several national and international decorations.
