Rare Headcloth With Ikat And Embroidery, Palembang, Sumatra, Indonesia, 19th C. Silk headcover of weft wrap resist (ikat) in a square design with plain borders on all sides, these plain borders filled with floral scrolls of satin-stitch embroidery in silk thread with applied sequins, worked in four concentric rows to form an elaborate border. Medium: silk tabby cloth, silk thread, sequins; wrap resist (ikat), embroidery. Size: 2'8'' x 2'8'' (81 x 81 cm). Provenance: Ex. Roger Hollander collection.
