Rossetti family copy.- Aristotle. Trattato dei governi, translated by Bernardo Segni, collation: A-Z Aa-Zz Aaa-Iii4, first edition of this translation, woodcut historiated initials, title with a few small repaired holes (affecting part of one number of date) and stained, some staining and spotting, the former heavier to sigs. A-C, late 18th / early 19th century calf, rebacked preserving original backstrip (worn at ends), modern black leather label to spine, edges worn, rubbed and little chipped, small 4to (212 x 132mm.), Florence, Lorenzo Torrentino, 1549.
â‚ Provenance: 'W.M. Rossetti, from his mother, 1876' (ink inscription to front free endpaper). William Michael Rossetti was the younger brother of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and a year older than his sister Christina. His mother was Frances Mary Polidori, sister of John William Polidori (author of The Vampyre and physician to Lord Byron). William was a founder member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and edited their literary magazine The Germ. He also edited the diaries of his uncle John William Polidori and the collected works of D.G. Rossetti and Christina Rossetti, as well writing a biography of D.G. Rossetti.
