Art Nouveau designs.- Waller (Pickford) Five sketchbooks of Art Nouveau designs for decorative motifs, wallpapers, or bookplates, all but one with 60 leaves of designs, other with 30 leaves, coloured inks and watercolours, some heightened with gold wash, on both sides of Whatman or Reeve's drawing paper, with artist's monogram and date in blue or red ink on inside cover, some light offsetting or spotting, original cloth or linen, small oblong 8vo, (180 x 125mm or smaller), 1917-1921.
⁂ An excellent group of Pickford's characteristic designs. Pickford Waller (1849-1930) was an artist, illustrator and designer of bookplates, wallpapers and fabrics in the Art Nouveau style. He was a friend of Whistler and James Guthrie of the Pear Tree Press, for whom he worked on several books.
