Description
Seguy (E.A.) Insectes, first edition, 20 superb pochoir coloured phototype plates, loose as issued with 4pp. letterpress in original cloth-backed pictorial board portfolio with ties, folio, Paris, Editions Duchartre et Van Buggenhoudt, [1928].
⁂ Seguy (1889-1985), working in Paris in the early 1920s, spanned the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, producing a series of magnificent portfolios of images based on the natural world. In his book on the period Ray says: 'In comparison with their variety and brilliance, much Art Deco illustration seems pallid and constrained." (Ray, The Art Deco Book in France). The first 16 plates depict large format insects with 5 examples crowded onto each plate; the final 4 plates show decorative patterns incorporating insect motifs and designs.
