Description
1907 $10 Gold Certificate, Signatures of Vernon & Treat Fr-1167 Grades vf+. The U.S. began issuing paper currency representing actual gold coinage in 1863. This practice continued until 1933, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the gold recall into effect. This $10 Gold Certificate from the series of 1907, represents the first year of issue for the denomination. The note contains the authorization signatures of John Burke, the 24th U.S. Treasurer, and Register of the Treasury Gabe E. Parker, and is classified as item #1171 in the index of paper currency developed by authors Arthur and Ira Friedberg. The likeness of Michael Hillegas, the first U.S. Treasurer, adorns the front face of the note, with date, denomination and authorization signatures. The reverse is printed in a deep orange gold color, symbolizing the certificate's gold value, featuring the Great Seal of the U.S. surrounded by the sun's rays
