Description
Han Dynasty, Ca. 202 BC - 220 AD A Chinese Western Han Dynasty hollow-moulded terracotta rabbit, portrayed in a naturalistic manner, characteristic of the Western Han Dynasty artistic style. The figure is modelled in a squatting pose, head facing frontal. Its forelimbs are slightly extended at an elegant angle, supporting the weight of its erect upper body. The facial features, such as eyes, ears and mouths are picked out in pinkish-red and black pigments. The mouth is decorated with delicate brush strokes, intimating rabbit whiskers. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will accompany this object. Size: L:330.0mmmm / W:220.0mmmm ; 3.7kg Provenance: East Anglian private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.
