Description
French Provincial Carved Oak Louis XIII Style Coffer, 18th c., the stepped top with long wrought iron strap hinges over a front panel with leaf and scroll carving above four figural carved panels flanked by reeded pilasters, on a sloping plinth base on large round bun feet, H.- 30 1/4 in., W.- 58 1/2 in., D.- 24 1/2 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. Some minor old pest damage to feet and one foot has cracked, but the chest is sturdy nonetheless. Stately example with elegant detailed carvings throughout. Normal signs of wear per typical use, and one old repair is visible on the top, where a gap between the top boards has been filled with a thin strip of wood. Key present. Excellent example.
