A very fine mid 18th century English walnut table clock of small size

The case of particularly good colour and patina, the inverted bell top with turned handle and four lobed finials over a moulded cornice, side sound frets and glazed panels to a moulded base and block feet. The 5.75 inch arched brass dial with calendar subsidiary flanked by cherub mounts, over a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with half-quarter marks and crown-and-sceptre spandrels, strike/silent lever at IX, the matted centre with signature plaque and mock pendulum aperture. The movement with knopped and ringed pillars, pivoted verge escapement and rack striking on a bell, the quarters struck on command via a pull cord to the side acting on six bells and hammers, the backplate signed within a symmetrical foliate design framed by a wheatear border. Running, striking and repeating. Together with a door key and winding key. 41cms (16ins) high.

Condition
The walnut case is well patinated, there are minimal cracks to the case commensurate to the age. All the frets are sound, all glass panels are free of cracks, the door locks are working with a single key, the feet are correct to the case. The dial is in fine condition, the silvered rings are without blemish, the blued steel hands are fine. The movement with verge escapement with replaced crown wheel, replaced verge and replaced dummy pendulum. Correctly striking the hours with pull hour repeat with quarters. The movement is fully working but a sympathetic service could be considered.
