Description
American soldier, lawyer, author, and statesman (1783-1851), and son of Jefferson's Secretary of War Henry Dearborn. He served as the first president of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, designed Mount Auburn and Forest Hills cemeteries, was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, and authored many books. Partly-printed DS, signed “H. Dearborn,” one page, 12.75 x 8, May 18, 1835. As adjutant general, Dearborn accepts the resignation of and honorably discharges "Hezekiah Eldridge as Surgeon in the third regiment of Infantry in the second Brigade and third Division of the Militia." In very good to fine condition, with archival tape repairs to fold splits on the reverse.
