Description
Very desirable schematics booklet entitled “The Wright ‘B’ Modified Flyer,” issued during the 1978 Enshrinement Ceremonies at the Aviation Hall of Fame, which coincided with the 75th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ historic first flight on December 17, 1903. The stapled booklet, five pages, 11 x 8.5, is signed on the front cover in black ballpoint by Apollo 11 moonwalker Neil Armstrong, and by his first wife, Janet Shearon Armstrong. A caption on the front of the booklet reads: “This set of drawings, done by select members of the Drafting Departments of Fairmont East and Fairmont West High Schools of Kettering, Ohio, represent the only existing plans of the Wright Modified ‘B’ Flyer of 1911.” Includes the original 1978 Aviation Hall of Fame program and a pledge letter from Wright B. Flyer, Inc., seeking donations for the completion of “a modern, flying, lookalike version of the aircraft.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from Zarelli Space Authentication.
An appealing association between aviation legends—during his Apollo 11 mission to the moon, Neil Armstrong carried in his ‘personal preference kit’ fabric and propeller remnants of the Wright Flyer, the craft flown by fellow Ohioans Wilbur and Orville Wright when they succeeded in taking the first powered flight on December 17, 1903, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
