Description
Art Deco bronze bird bell by Edouard-Marcel Sandoz. Susse Freres Ed, Susse Freres foundry seal. Origin France. Circa 1920. Perfect condition. The Susse Frères firm was established in 1839 by brothers Michel Victor Susse and Amedee Susse, who set up a foundry in Paris. The company was famous for producing exceptionally cast bronzes, which often featured impressively applied patinas. / Edouard Marcel Sandoz (1881-1971) was a sculptor who worked in bronze, ceramics and the direct carving of stone. Born in Basel, educated in Switzerland, Edouard Marcel Sandoz worked mainly in Paris where he settled in 1908. He studied at the School of Fine Arts with Antonin Mercié and Jean-Antoine Injalbert. Sandoz of Switzerland was most famous as a sculptor of animals.
