Ancient Central Asia, eastern Black Sea region / Caucasus, Cimmerian, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. A striking iron sword with a stunning, openwork bronze hilt, all enveloped in russet and green patina evocative of the ancient world. The bronze handle presents with an ovoid pommel and an elaborate grip comprised of a column of 5 openwork circles that taper toward the flattened crossguard. Pierced on one side for suspension, the crossguard features a central rectangle and thick arms that flare upwards towards the double-edged iron blade, which presents a lengthy body and a raised median ridge.
