Item Details
Description
Rene Lalique (French, 1860-1945). "Perruches" (Parakeets) art glass bowl, 1931. Signed (acid etched) "R. LALIQUE FRANCE" on the underside. A stunning opalescent glass "Perruches" bowl molded with 20 parakeets in high relief around the outer walls of the vessel against a gorgeous background of floral vines. Designed in 1931 by the great Rene Lalique, a French master jeweler who was famous for his luxury glassware of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements, this bowl reflects the beauty of the natural environment, paying homage to organic forms with a breathtaking design and mesmerizing opalescence. Size: 9.5" diameter x 4.125" H (24.1 cm x 10.5 cm)

Rene Lalique studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs de Paris and worked as a designer for jewelers in the 19th century prior to establishing his own atelier. In 1900, Lalique exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in Paris thus establishing himself as a master jeweler. He went on to concentrate on glassmaking, creating striking bowls as well as perfume bottles and other vessels, embellishing his forms with intricate reliefs. In 1921, Lalique built a glassworks factory at Wingen-sur-Moder in Alsace.
