A coastal figural landscape depicting Mount Carmel, the Dead Sea, and the ancient city of Ptolemais to background, painted in the style of the Hudson River School. Artist monogram RS to lower right, and additional artist signature RUSSELL SMITH with date 1886 and hand written description to verso. The artist was employed by eminent geologists of the Victorian period to illustrate and record their expeditions. Presented in a decorative gilt frame. Sight size 11.5" x 17.25".
