James Abbott McNeill Whistle Lithograph Title: "Bead-Stringers, Venice" Medium: lithograph (after the pastel). The lithography was published in London by The Studio in 1905 for a rare deluxe portfolio. Printed on smooth wove paper, the frame is approx 11 x 16 inches. The lithograph is presented mounted along the top edge onto a brown backing, sheet matted and framed, Signed in the plate (not by hand). The item is in good condition with some wear on the frame but no known damage to the lithograph. 2lbs James Abbott McNeill Whistler 1834 – 1903 was an American artist, active during the American Gilded Age and based primarily in the UK. He was averse to sentimentality and moral allusion in painting, and was a leading proponent of the credo "art for art's sake". His famous signature for his paintings was in the shape of a stylized butterfly possessing a long stinger for a tail. Whistler influenced the art world and the broader culture of his time with his artistic theories and his friendships with leading artists and writers
