Salida , Colorado is the county seat for Chaffee County. Salida means "exit" in Spanish and refers to the location of the city near the Arkansas River flowing out of the valley towards Bighorn Sheep Canyon. The Post Office was established in the early 1880's.1) JAS PEMBERTON/SALIDA/COLO. Aqua, 6 7/8" tall. The number 40 on lower front base. Significant chipping on the top rim. Otherwise the rest of the bottle is mint. Reference S282 in Preble's IMPRESSED IN TIME COLORADO BEVERAGE BOTTLES, JUGS & ETC 1859-19152) SALIDA BOTTLING CO./SALIDA/COLO. Purple color, 6 7/8" tall. #/8" rough spot by seam at base of bottle. Light bottle ware scratches.
