Description
**First Time At Auction**
East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A large porcelain urn with an inverted piriform body and lid, adorned in a vibrant but limited palette which is characteristic of the classic Wucai style. The piriform body sits on a flat base, the walls swelling gently upward to a corseted neck, and 6 stylized face shaped handle loops encircle the shoulder. The lid fits flush into the mouth with an interior lip and conical knob handle finial. A repeating dragon motif, stylized clouds, flames, and floral peonies are glazed across lid and body. If you run your hands over the surface, the difference in texture between the cobalt and the rest of the colors is pronounced; the vessel was first glazed with the blue, fired, then overglazed with the red, green, and yellow. Size: 8.75" Diameter x 14" H (22.2 cm x 35.6 cm)
Provenance: private Friday Harbor, Washington, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000
