Navajo (Slave Blanket), 1870
Woven in a Serape style pattern. Vegetal and Analin and Indigo blue handspun yarn. Late Classic. "The term "Slave Blanket" is used to designate a class of Southwestern blanketry in which there is a curious blending of Navajo upright loom technique and design, with dyes and minor decorative motifs typical of those used by the Spanish colonists," The "Slave Blanket" by H.P. mera, Laboratory of Anthropology, Santa Fe, NM. 1938.
Lot is accompanied with a copy of H.P. Mera's pamphlet, The "Slave Blanket," published in 1938 by the Laboratory of Anthropology, Inc., Santa Fe,NM. Second Printing.
