New Mexico Bulto of San Antonio de Padua, ca. 1830
carved wood, gesso, pigments
Hand-carved figure, painted over gessoed surface with brown hair smoothed, his face has arched brow, open eyes with upper and lower lid, defined nose and red painted mouth. He wears a blue monastic tunic, is smooth shaven, and may have originally held a figure of the Christ Child.
