Description
A carved wooden janus form headdress with two faces accented with kaolin clay pigment and raised forms representing the coiffure. The headdress has a well handled and weathered surface suggesting field use and wear. Idoma peoples, Cross River, Nigeria, Africa. The sculpture measures 12.5 inches tall. Provenance: Estate of Distinguished Professor Philip Gould, NYC. Professor of Art History at Columbia University and Sarah Lawrence College, Professor Philip Gould was a passionate collector of African Art, and curated numerous museum and gallery exhibitions.
