Camille Claudel
France,1864-1943
Depicts a woman sitting in a chair with her head resting against a fireplace mantle. Claudel was a talented artist in impressionistic works, however her skill was over shadowed by her affair with Auguste Rodin. After Rodin took another mistress, Claudel's family sent her to a mental institution for her subsequent nervous breakdown involving Rodin. After her death, Claudel's works began to become more popular, with a posthumous exhibition at the National Museum of Women in The Arts. Some of her works can be found at the Ruthmere Museum in Elkhart, Indiana.
Bronze, hardstone,Approx. 8 3/3" t x 11 3/8" w x 9 3/4" d.
Signed "C. Claudel" on base with a "Eug. Blot/Paris" foundry mark beneath signature.
