**First Time At Auction**

Western Europe, Prussia / Germany, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A military mitre cap, an iconic part of the uniform worn by the elite grenadier soldiers, made from leather, iron, cloth, brass, and lacing. The front brass plate is embossed with a stylized grenade, flames issuing from the top- a standard symbol of the grenadiers in Europe. The back half is slightly stooped, covered with a red wool felt, the front half in an olive-green velvet, and golden lace embellishments. A coiled wire upon the pompom and a brass button also contain the grenade emblem. This mitre type persisted in the Russian Imperial army and Germany mainly as parade wear up until the early 20th century / World War I. Size: 15.5" L x 8.5" Diameter (39.4 cm x 21.6 cm)

Slight odor to cloth. Staining and discoloration on interior cloth lining. Fraying and tearing to lace and pompom is slightly loose. Some fading top exterior cloth. Overall very good condition!
