Description
ANS, one page, 7 x 8.5, in full: “George Bush—Lew my friend, congrats on your wedding!!” Also signed by Tom Kleppe, Donald Rumsfeld, and Sonny Montgomery, who adds “Lew you witnessed Brier match and it was free.” Annotated in ink in the lower corner, “House Gymnasium, Jan. 17, 1976.” In fine condition, with light show-through at the bottom from a collector's notations on the back.
An early note, written less than two weeks before Bush became head of the C.I.A. At this time Rumsfeld was serving as U.S. Secretary of Defense, Kleppe was serving as U.S. Secretary of interior, and Montgomery was a U.S. Congressman from Mississippi. Montgomery and Bush often played paddleball together and he was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush.
