Description
1st-2nd century A.D. A matching pair of amphora-shaped earrings, each composed of a piriform body, trumpet-shaped neck, four slender scroll-handles, openwork body composed of conjoined spheres with pellet ornament, imitating clusters of grapes, larger hoops above and smaller below, with granule clusters to the collars and shoulder. Cf. The Metropolitan Museum, accession number 35.29.2, for very similar. 10.65 grams total, 43-45 mm (1 3/4 in.). Ex private London collection. Acquired on the UK art market, 1971-1974. [2]
