Description:
Linen-backed color lithograph pictorial time-line. 70x679 cm (27½x267¼"), folded and bound in later brown cloth boards 70x35 cm (27½x13¾"); front cover with original gilt-stamped pebbled cloth inset, fresh endpapers. Second Edition and seventh-thousand.
Fascinating and incredibly large pictorial time line of the history of the world, from Adam and Eve (or the Stone-age, whichever came first) to Noah's Ark resting on Ararat, the Tower of Babel, the crucifixion of Christ, the Roman Empire, the discovery of America and a listing of the U.S. Presidents to President Garfield. The chart begins with a view of the world from the Eastern Hemisphere (since the discovery of the Western Hemisphere didn't come until much later) and includes the author's photographic portrait in the middle. Also depicts ancient tools, Egyptian Hieroglyphic letters, the Greek Alphabet, eminent historians, important biblical figures and their genealogy, different time line chronologies for various countries and empires showing their own particular histories and much more. A wonderful example of 19th century American color lithography.
