Description
Alan Bean Signed Artist's Proof "Is Anyone Out There?" Fine Art Giclée On Canvas

An artist's proof fine art giclée on canvas after an original acrylic painting by Alan Bean (1932-2018), Apollo 12 and Skylab 3 astronaut and amateur artist, entitled "Is Anyone Out There?," ca. 2000. The giclée print is signed by Bean in silver felt-tip pen, as "Alan Bean" and numbered "AP 7/12" in the lower right corner. Also signed in stone as "Alan Bean / © 2000" at lower right. The limited edition print was published as a Masterwork © Giclée canvas by The Greenwich Workshop, Inc. (Shelton, Connecticut). Copyright information can be found along the bottom margin just outside the image field in both corners. Near pristine. Currently unframed, rolled, and housed in a tube. The giclée measures 43.75" x 33.75" overall. Accompanied by a sealed, unopened plastic pouch containing The Greenwich Workshop Certificate of Authenticity; an ArtUSA.com invoice dated October 24, 2009; and an engraved plaque to put on the frame.

"Is Anyone Out There?" was inspired by feelings of isolation that Bean experienced on the lunar surface during the Apollo 12 mission. Speaking of the work, Bean later explained: "On a November day in 1969…more than once I glanced up to see the Earth…it brought to mind the questions humans have asked through the centuries - are we all alone in the cosmos?... I asked the questions of the ages in my own words. 'Is anyone out there? Is there an all-knowing, all-powerful being out there who is in charge of everything in this universe, and all of us, too?'"

The Certificate of Authenticity states in part: "This Fine Art Limited Edition Masterwork © Giclée Canvas, published by The Greenwich Workshop, has been produced from the artist's original acrylic painting. The artist has approved the proofs and techniques used in the production of this canvas; each canvas has been personally approved and signed by the artist and consecutively numbered..."

Alan Bean went to space twice; the first time as Lunar Module Pilot during the November 14 - 24, 1969 Apollo 12 mission, and the second time as Commander of the July 23 - September 25, 1973 Skylab 3 mission.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
