Description
Native American, Canada, northwestern Quebec, Inuit, ca. 1981. Inscribed "1-96860 BI / Inukpuk / Ittukalla / C81" on base. An endearing soapstone sculpture of a mother holding her child. Seated on a pile of rocks, the hooded mother holds her child in her lap with both hands. The youngster is heavily swaddled in a cocoon of clothes, as the mother protectively gazes outward above him, displaying ovoid eyes, a broad nose, and an open mouth as though in shock. Size: 6.8" W x 6.8" H (17.3 cm x 17.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
