Born into the Lakota Sioux Nation in 1955, Norman Red Star began creating art at just 16 years of age. Initially crafting beadwork, he was eventually inspired to continue the tradition of Santa Clara blackware. Learning from his uncle Elmer Red Star, a respected potter from Santa Clara Pueblo, Norman incorporated distinctive designs with bead inlay to create his unique style.
