Charles White (American 1918-1979), "Sara," 1969, zinc etching on paper, artist proof, titled "Sara" at lower left, signed and dated at lower right, having a Forum Gallery NY label en verso. Note: The 1969 edition of 25 of this same image is entitled "Melinda". Provenance: From the Estate of Marilyn "Mickey" Bord, New York, NY. A native New Yorker, Bord formed a deep personal and professional relationship with famed dancer and choreographer Alvin Ailey. Mickey dyed and sewed costumes for the Alvin Ailey Dance Company and eventually served as archivist. Ailey's foundational interest in the African American cultural experience informed the art collection that he assisted Marilyn in acquiring, much of which is offered in this auction.
