Description

1897, GERMANY: Very possibly one of a kind and featured on the cover and in the "Music Box Society Mechanical Music Journal", May/June, 2009. This wonderful 2-piece upright disc music box consists of the upper case with mechanics and a lower case for disc storage. Constructed of walnut veneers outside and oak veneers inside with fine wood carvings, and in the upper case four lattices of punched tin and a colorful center chromolithograph. The beautiful color picture features an allegorical figure, "Lipsia", sitting on a stone rampart, holding a shield with the enigmatic initials "WR". At her feet lies a stylistic lyre, and in the background a historical view of Leipzig, Germany. Operation of the music box comes from depositing 5 Pfennig, however a US penny will work just fine. CONSIDERATIONS: Both cases show light wear to the wood with some finish abrasions, but overall a wonderful finish. The operation is by single comb with 82 steel teeth, complete with no repair. The bottom cabinet has internal storage departments and the music box comes with 10 discs, showing light oxidation. In full operation with light mellow sound and tone, and frankly needing to be played. With crank. This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made. Condition: (Very Good). Dimensions: 26" x 14" x 72 - 11/16".
