Antique solid bronze candle holder, Baroque style putto on a dolphin, c. late 19th Century. This solid heavy bronze light holder was probably intended and used as an outdoor lamp. Beautiful original patina buildup is due to its age.

The light holder is 9" [22.9cm] tall and 4.1/2" [11.5cm] across at the base; solid heavy bronze; aging- patina, [see photos]; very good condition.

Bronzes are alloys of copper and tin whilst brasses are alloys of copper and zinc. Bronze generally has a higher fatigue resistance than brass, and is usually more expensive than brass, partly due to the processes required to manufacture bronze. Bronze and brass are also quite different not only in their makeup but also in appearance: brass is muted yellow, somewhat similar to gold, but duller, the bronze is reddish brown.
