Dimensions: 18"H x 9 3/4"W

Extraordinary, Chinese 12th C. Yuan Dynasty Period, blue & white floral motif meiping jar. The Finest porcelain shaped into a traditional Meiping form, large, thick and tall potted, wide body on shoulder, slender neck easing to form narrow opening, with emerging slight flaring mouth rim, raised on splayed round foot base, with slight concave. All reserved in hand painting ornamentations, rendered in clean white under glazed ground color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. Blue and white porcelain in Chinese it is called Qing Hua Ci. It is the most important variety of China’s porcelain. It was originated in the Yuan Dynasty. Its color does not easily fade and durability is longer. It used cobaltous oxide as the colorant. Patterns were directly painted onto the inner body and burnt after glaze was applied on it. The main belly delicately fine depicted with big peony flowers blooms interspersed fresh foliage and interlocking tendril. The foot rim and the upper shoulder decorated with geometric pattern, flowers pendants. The upper main belly festooned with abundant flowers blooms interspersed scrolling interlocking tendril and foliage. And the lower belly decorated with scrolling interlocking ruyi and tendril. Each section banded and enclosed with double fine rings. The peony is the unofficial Chinese National Flower. It stands as a symbol of spring and female beauty and reproduction. It also represents richness, honor and high social class. It is a favored flower for the 12th wedding anniversary. Peonies from Luoyang are considered the best in the country and are showcased in a festival held in Louyang in April or May of each year. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the under glaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
