Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A collection of 3 ancient gold and electrum jewelry pieces: 2 earrings and a foil applique. The first earring is a simple hoop shape made from electrum, 46.2% (equivalent to 11K+) gold and 50.7% silver, with a thick body that tapers to an arched wire for threading through the earlobe. The other earring is an 85.8% (20K+) gold U-shape with slender terminal wires for twisting and securing in place. The teardrop shaped 83.09% (20K+) gold foil is comprised of a thinly hammered and cut sheet, folded in half creating 2 layers. Size (electrum earring): 0.69" L x 0.49" W (1.8 cm x 1.2 cm); electrum quality: 46.2% gold (equivalent to 11K+) and 50.7% silver; gold quality (earring): 83.09% to 85.8% (19K+ to 20K+); total weight: 5 grams
