Ancient Holyland, Levant region, Iron Age I to II, ca. 1200 to 900 BCE. A charming pottery askos boasting the rare form of a horse or mule carrying a pair of jugs that double as spouts. Standing atop 4 short legs, the corpulent animal displays a thick, cylindrical body as it extends forth its petite head with a pointed snout, delineated nostrils, drilled eyes, an incised mouth, a prominent mane, and petaloid ears folded back. A slender tail falls from its round posterior. Size: 5.4" W x 4.2" H (13.7 cm x 10.7 cm)
