Description
George Lundeen (American, b. 1948). "Daisy" bronze, 1984. Signature, date, and AP/2 (for artist proof) inscribed on clothing over subject's back and shoulder. A beautiful bronze bust of an elegant lady created by notable Colorado sculptor George Lundeen. Visitors to Boulder, Colorado may be familiar with his "Hearts on a Swing" bronze, a favorite among the city's outdoor public art works. With "Daisy" it seems like Lundeen decided to create a historic 19th to early 20th century version of that famous woman relaxing on the swing decorated with heart-shaped openwork motifs. Her long wavy tresses are pulled back into a bun that is adorned by a daisy, and she wears ruffled jumper or apron straps over a button-down blouse. Finally, by having Daisy looking toward her right, Lundeen ignites our curiosity. Just who or what has captured her attention? The possibilities for a narrative are endless. An outstanding sculpture - an artist's proof - upon a wooden pedestal base. Size: 7" H (17.8 cm); 11.75" H (29.8 cm) on included custom stand.
Artist's Biographical Statement: "A native of Holdrege, Nebraska, Lundeen was a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar studying at the Academia de Belle Arte in Florence, Italy. He holds a masters in Fine Arts from the University of Illinois and a bachelor of arts from Hastings College in Nebraska. He has been commissioned to sculpt portraits and interpretive works alike for universities, municipalities, foundations, and corporations.
