With wood-engraved title page, 61 (of 63) full-page engraved plates, plus floriated initials, headpieces, and publisher's device on final page. 21.5x15.3 cm (8½x6"), later period full calf ruled in gilt, raised bands, spine sections tooled in gilt; all edges stained red. First Edition.

Vico's lavishly illustrated study of coins depicting notable Roman women. Most plates are second state, with Roman numerals present. Lacking pages 187-190 which likely contained plates LVI & LVII. Bookplate of the Earl of Roden and others on front pastedown. Bradley, Vol III. pp. 382-384.

Light wear to calf, joints repaired; front free endpaper lost, ink staining to both sides of title page, offsetting from plates throughout, plate 27 repaired, Di Livia Medvlina plate faded; very good.
