Description
Ancient Corinthian Pottery Vessel with Animals c.600 BC. Size 5 3/4 inches high, 6 3/8 inches diameter. Large example of a double-handled vessel decorated with lions, swans, and horned animals, painted in two registers around the body and separated by a double line of dots around the widest part of the body. Two small, looped strap handles on the upper body create a pleasing symmetry on the piece. It stands on a broad, flat base with a flared ring around it and has a wide mouth with a thick, flared rim. Extensively repaired and restored, with motifs overpainted. Deposits on interior and foot. Provenance: NYC collection, ex. Fortuna Fine Arts, NYC.
