"Dolly Dingle Paper Dolls" by Grace G. Drayton, Full Color Reproduction of 30 Antique Paper Dolls, complete series of "Dolly Dingle's Trip Around the World," [originally appeared monthly in 1917] with an extra two-page set "Back Home Again for a Good American Christmas," which appeared in December. Also included are the first three Dolly Dingle cut-outs which appeared in the March, April, and May, 1913 issues of "Pictural Review." These three were chosen because they are the beginning of the Dolly Dingle series and are extremely rare and prized by the paper doll collectors.
Introduction by Barbara Whitton Jendrick, published by Dover, New York in association with The Margaret Woodbury Strong Museum, 1978.
Soft cover, large format: 9.1/4" x 12.1/4"; 16 color plates on heavy cardboard like paper, printed on one side only [blank versos]; a little wear, very good condition.
Grace Drayton, also known as Grace Wiederseim (1878-1936) was an illustrator of children's books, fashion pages, and magazine covers. Drayton was the first woman to be a cartoonist for Hearst. She is considered to be one of the first and most successful American female cartoonists. Drayton created the Campbell Soup Kids, she also designed the popular Dolly Dingle paper dolls, which appeared in the women's magazine Pictorial Review.
