Zhang Daqian (May 10, 1898-April 2, 1983), whose real name was Zhang Zhengquan, was later renamed Zhang Yuan, Zhang Xuan, Zhang Yuan, nicknamed Ji, styled Ji Yuan, legal name Daqian, not under the name Daqian Jushi, Xiali Hong Kong native, named Dafengtang and Dafengqixi, is a well-known contemporary artist of the Republic of China. He was born in Neijiang, Sichuan, and his ancestral home is Panyu, Guangdong. Because of its poetry, calligraphy and painting, it is equally famous as Qi Baishi and Pu Xinshe, so it is also called "South Zhangbei Qi" and "South Zhangbei Pu". It is as famous as Huang Junbi and Pu Xinshe as "Three Families Crossing the Sea". In his twenties, he grew a long beard, which became a unique symbol of Zhang Daqian in the future. He has exchanged ideas with Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Huang Junbi, Huang Binhong, Pu Xinshe, Lang Jingshan, etc., as well as Spanish Cubist painter Picasso.
