Ernest Hagen (American, 1830 - 1913) Colonial Revival mahogany mirror, last quarter 19th century, of typical form with elaborately shaped top and bottom, the back with label reading: "Ernest Hagen / Furniture and Upholstery / .213 East 26th Street / Near Third Avenue..." Mirror plate: 29.25" H x 16.25" WFrame: 45" H x 23.5" W Note: Ernest Hagen (American, 1830 - 1913), a New York City historian and exceptional Colonial Revival period craftsman, produced and sold American style furniture throughout the 19th century. After his sons Frederick E. & Henry A. took over his business, Ernest's "Cabinetmaker's Remembrances" were published in Antiques magazine 12/43 & 11/63. Hagen was often approached to restore Duncan Phyfe pieces. He was an apprentice at Krieg and Dohrmann (1845-53), Baudoine (1853-58), and opened Meier & Hagen (1858-88). As Ernest F Hagen (1888-1905), addresses-106 Norfolk St (1858-67) Hagen sold the offered lot from his premises at 213 E 26th St after 1867.
