Description
Li Xiongcai (May 15, 1910 - December 19, 2001), a native of Zhaoqing, Guangdong, was a Chinese painter. He is also known as the four famous painters of the second generation of the Lingnan School of painting along with Zhao Shaoang, Guan Shanyue and Yang Shanshen. Li Xiongcai studied under Gao Jianfu in his early years and later studied painting in Japan. He was a consultant and professor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Like other painters of the Lingnan School of Painting, Li Xiongcai devoted himself to the innovation and reform of Chinese painting, integrating traditional Chinese painting techniques with Japanese and Western painting techniques, but with different styles. Li Xiongcai is good at huge landscapes, and his paintings are powerful and self-contained. His representative works include "Xiaoxiang Night Rain", "Crying Apes in Cold Nights", "A List of Small Mountains", "Forest", "Wuhan Flood Control Map", "Spring of Eternal Ages" and so on.
