A White Jade Openwork 'spring water' Oval Plaque, Yuan Dynasty (private English collection)
carved in openwork with a goose, caught in intertwining lotus stems and foliage, as it flees from a small haidongqing falcon on the top of the plaque, the head of the goose raised with an open beak, its feathers shown through line incisions, the stalks of the plants smoothly carved, the stone of even white tone with patches of russet skin
