Condition
The frame is brightly polished, the plates with period patination. The later frets with surplus fitting holes and odd screws. The bell frame with pierced crown is fine, the bell with a soldered crack but still with a reasonable tone. The finials and feet are fine. The side doors and backplate are lacking. The dial is brightly polished without loss of the detailed engraving, the single original hand is well preserved. The going train with verge escapement and short bob pendulum to the centre of the movement, the extra holes beneath the verge backcock with evidence of a later replacement. The escapement with excessive drops. The pinions of the going train with acceptable wear, the pinions on the striking train excessively worn, the fly pinion with extreme wear and very noisy, but the train runs freely. The associated oak bracket is well proportioned to the clock.
