Footnotes:
A possible identification for the singer might be the contralto Faustina Bordoni (1693-1783) a portrait of whom is held in the collection of the Handel Museum, London. In this case the musician at the clavichord could be her husband, the composer Johann Adolf Hasse (1699-1783).

The canvas appears to be unlined and has numerous patches on the reverse, to the left hand section when looking at the back. The canvas hangs a little unevenly on its stretcher. There is a small loss at the left hand edge, lower left. The varnish is a little dirty.
Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals: restoration to much of the singer's face; further restoration to the skin tones in general; numerous infillings throughout the sky; retouching to much of the costume; strengthening to the music stand and to the architecture.
