Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1100 to 1533 CE. A lovely double-weave textile belt or sash known as a "chumpi" composed of tightly-woven camelid fibers from alpaca or llama wool. The brown, black, and white threads create an intricate checkered pattern bordered by red and ochre yellow hues, and hanging from the terminal ends are braided or twisted cords. This is a very long textile, that could be wrapped several times in a decorative fashion by the wearer, securing and accenting the traditional wrapped dress worn by Andean people. Size: 100" L x 1.75" W (254 cm x 4.4 cm)
