[6], 102; 103, [1]; [2], 102, [1]; [4], 100, [1] pp. With 400 circular engraved emblems of biology and natural history (100 in each part); descriptive text for each emblem is on the facing page. (4to) 18x13 cm (7x5"), old half leather and speckled boards.
First complete collected edition of Camerarius' Symbolorum, here with an apparent second state of the general title page. Camerarius' Symbolorum was printed in 4 parts between 1590 and 1604, each part with separate dated title page. In 1605 the parts were bundled together and released with a general title page. Though our general title page reads "second edition", the precise bibliographic implications of the statement are unclear, as our text appears to contain the first editions of each of the four parts. ;The title page of the first work is monogrammed "HS" and the emblems are attributable either to Hans Sibmacher or to Hans Schroder. Art historians deem these emblems to be among the best of their kind.
