The finest printing of Whitman's Leaves of Grass and a masterwork of the Grabhorn Press. Taking over a year to print, "The tremendous impression necessary to print this book so strained the press that the printers suggested the colophon should read: '400 copies printed and the press destroyed'" (Grabhorn Bibliography I). GB 138.

Condition

A little wear and staining to the leather along the joints where rebacked, the title panel of the original spine strip a bit rubbed; free endpaper with normal offset from the wooden boards, light trace of removed bookplate on the front free endpaper, very good, internally clean and fine.
